BrainFest 2025 Recap: Moving Together for Brain Health

As Alzheimer’s Awareness Month begins, MOSH kicked it off with energy, purpose, and community at the second annual BrainFest, hosted by co-founders Maria Shriver and Patrick Schwarzenegger. What began as an idea to unite people around brain health has evolved into a signature wellness event that celebrates the connection between movement, mindfulness, and mission.

What Is BrainFest?

BrainFest was created to bring the community together around the pillars of brain health - social connection, education, movement, and nutrition. It inspires people to take proactive steps toward better brain and body wellness while raising funds for the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement at Cleveland Clinic.

Starting Strong: Stretch and Step

The morning began beachside with an energizing warm-up led by fitness icons Katie and Denise Austin, whose enthusiasm got everyone smiling, stretching, and ready to move. The mother-daughter duo set the tone for the day—joyful, connected, and focused on living well at every age.

From there, the Equinox team guided a 45-minute beachside walk—showing how simple movement fuels the mind. Along the way, attendees connected with leading experts like Dr. Angela Zhou (CAS) and Drs. Dean and Ayesha Sherzai shared tips about how daily habits can sharpen focus and protect long-term cognitive health. Conversations continued throughout the morning at the Ask Me Anything station, where questions were answered by experts in real time.

Brain-Boosting Partners and Mind-Blowing Fun

After the walk, the Regent Santa Monica transformed into an area made for wellness and discovery. Zibby’s Books hosted a pop-up bookstore where guests met authors Harley Pasternak (The Carb Reset) and Emma Heming Willis (The Unexpected Journey), and could browse books that feed the mind and soul. In the Hyperice Recovery Zone, participants rested and recharged with Normatec therapy boots, while partners like Beam, Make Time, Earthbar, Caliwater, and Beekeeper’s Naturals offered samples crafted to boost energy, focus, and recovery.

The Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement Brain Health Pledge Wall was the centerpiece of the event, where guests committed to prioritizing their cognitive health. All day long, MOSH bars and Café Luxxe coffee kept minds sharp and spirits high, and gift bags contained brain-healthy goodies that were both functional and fun.

Each activation reiterated the story we tell: brain health doesn’t have to be complicated—it can be celebrated.

A Community with Purpose

BrainFest is a testament to the power of community. Friends, families, and strangers moved together, proving that wellness is amplified when shared. Experts and attendees alike engaged in meaningful conversation, bridging science and lifestyle in a way that made brain health feel both personal and shared.

At MOSH, community stands as one of the most powerful pillars of brain health—and BrainFest brings that belief to life. Each shared step and conversation strengthens not only individual well-being but also the collective spirit driving our mission forward.

Looking Ahead: The Movement Continues

BrainFest isn’t just an annual gathering—it’s a reflection of what MOSH stands for. It’s where movement meets mindfulness, where nutrition meets purpose, and where a shared mission transforms into momentum.

This year, the event brought together more than 200 participants and raised over $2,500 for the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement, but the true impact extends far beyond a single day. BrainFest reminds us that taking care of your brain is an act of celebration, and that every step toward wellness fuels a brighter, sharper, and more connected future.

The Women's Alzheimer's Movement (WAM) is the preeminent organization focused exclusively on women and Alzheimer’s. WAM was created to raise awareness around Alzheimer’s as a disease that discriminates against women, since two out of every three brains that develop Alzheimer’s belong to women–with women of color at even higher risk– and 2 out of 3 caregivers of all races and ethnicities being women as well. Until 10 years ago, the conventional thinking was that the higher incidence of Alzheimer’s in women simply reflected the fact that women tend to outlive men. That narrative was disrupted back in 2010, when WAM founder Maria Shriver partnered with the Alzheimer’s Association on a ground-breaking report challenging the assumption that age alone accounted for the higher number of women with Alzheimer’s. Ever since that seminal Shriver Report: A Woman’s Nation Takes on Alzheimer’s, WAM and Shriver have taken every opportunity to highlight the disproportionate and particular impact of Alzheimer’s on women. WAM's mission is to discover why Alzheimer’s discriminates against women and communities of color and to prepare women and their families for the impact of Alzheimer’s by providing them with information and tools to help prevent the disease. WAM envisions a future in which Alzheimer’s will no longer destroy the lives of women and their families. WAM works to change the future for women and Alzheimer’s by focusing on the four pillars: research, education, advocacy and clinical care. WAM funds critical gender based research to advance our knowledge of how Alzheimer’s affects women, educates the public about Alzheimer’s through summits, national polls, reports and educational guides. WAM advocates at all levels of government for policies, increased funding and other social, political and economic changes that will move the needle on Alzheimer’s. WAM provides on the ground services to give women the medical guidance they need to reduce their risk for developing the disease.

We recommend that pregnant or breastfeeding women contact their healthcare practitioner prior to consuming MOSH to ascertain whether consumption is safe.
